Each year, Canada welcomes approximately 300,000 immigrants who become Permanent Residents of Canada.

Permanent Residents receive a Permanent Resident Card (PR Card) that allows them to re-enter Canada without being required to hold a valid Visa or Temporary Status Document. The PR Card is generally valid for 5 years (except in some cases) and must be renewed. Permanent Residents must hold a valid PR Card and a valid passport, or a Travel Document, to enter Canada.
To maintain permanent residency status, Permanent Residents must comply with their residency obligations. They must reside in Canada for a minimum of 730 days (2 years) in any 5-year period after they became Permanent Residents of Canada.
